Georgian Cottage

Set within a Georgian cottage in rural Buckinghamshire, this first phase of the project focused on reconfiguring the upper floor to create a calm, considered retreat for the family.
The approach prioritised the home’s original architectural character while introducing a refined contemporary layer through colour, materiality and bespoke joinery.

The master bedroom is fully panelled and colour drenched in a soft chalky taupe, creating a cocooning backdrop. Hidden storage is seamlessly integrated within the wall panelling, while bespoke glazed wardrobes, screened with a pleated curtain, introduce both practicality and decorative softness. A tailored headboard and upholstered bed with a gathered bed skirt reinforce the room’s layered, restful atmosphere.

The bathroom continues the dialogue between heritage detailing and contemporary refinement. A chequered marble floor anchors the space, complemented by a bespoke fluted vanity in terracotta lacquer. Panelled walls, satin brass fittings and a café curtain introduce warmth and texture, resulting in a relaxed yet elevated finish.

The children’s bedrooms were designed as imaginative yet practical spaces, each with a strong sense of identity. In the boys’ room, low-level extra-wide panelling grounds the space, with wallpaper above adding softness and visual interest. A wavy, wide-striped headboard introduces a playful focal point, while an antique steamer trunk provides characterful toy storage. In the girls’ bedroom, a bespoke niche bed with an arched opening forms the heart of the space, framed by a curtain and lined internally with a romantic floral wallpaper for a storybook feel.
